New NVivo 8 teaching grants launched

Date: 20 May 2009
Category: Announcements

A new NVivo Teaching Grant Program was launched today, offering two grants valued at US$10,000 each to academics teaching qualitative research methods in American and Canadian universities.

The grants form a new pilot scheme designed to help academic institutions to incorporate qualitative data analysis software into undergraduate and graduate courses.

QSR International CEO John Owen says that while qualitative research software is used in every major university in the US, Europe and Australasia, it's not always part of the curricula.

"We think this is a great way to assist academics, who often struggle for funds to implement new course content. The research industry will also benefit from having students trained in the latest technology enter the workplace," he said.

Customized grant packages

Two grants valued at US$10,000 each are available to full time professors working in academic institutions in the United States or Canada. The successful applicant will be entitled to a tailored package customized to the individual needs of their class, for use during the 2009 Fall Semester. Each package can include a combination of NVivo 8 Software Licenses, NVivo 8 Workbooks, NVivo 8 Teachers' Handbooks and QSR hosted training and support services.

The grants will allow professors to include NVivo 8 software into their existing qualitative research methods course for at least one semester. Students will be able to learn how to use the software to analyze and evaluate their qualitative data, with dedicated support and training resources in place.

How to apply

Professors with an interest in incorporating qualitative data analysis software into their undergraduate or graduate course are encouraged to apply. Applications can be submitted via our NVivo Teaching Grants Application Form and are open until 30 June 2009.

Applications will be assessed by a panel of industry experts, including Judith Davidson, Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell; Raewyn Bassett, Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University; and Cynthia Jacobs, Regional Manager of Training and Research Consultancy Americas, QSR International.

More information can be found in our NVivo Teaching Grants Information Pack.

Important update
