Why am I getting a prompt for a 'Connection name' when I try to create a new project?

You are being asked for 'Connection name' as Microsoft SQL Server (the database component used by NVivo) has failed to install correctly.

From the NVivo home screen where recent projects are listed, please open the sample project (Environmental Change Down east). If the sample project file is not present in the recent projects list screen, you can also open the sample project manually by double clicking on the sample project file. The sample project file should be located in the below folder on your computer:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\NVivo 10 Samples

Depending on the error message displayed when opening the sample project, please follow one of the two below scenarios:

  1. You will be given the option to start the 'NVivo Installation Repair' wizard if you are on the latest version of NVivo 10 (Service Pack 6).The wizard will attempt to fix installation problems automatically. It is recommended you click on Troubleshoot problems and follow the prompts given to you.
  2. If you receive an error message but are not given the option to start the 'NVivo Installation Repair' wizard, please refer to the instructions in that error message to resolve the issue.
Note: The above instructions are only applicable if you are working with standalone NVivo projects. If NVivo is only used with NVivo Server projects in your organization, you don't need to follow the above instructions.
