Teams can collaborate on a standalone project and work with a single file using NVivo 12 Pro or Plus (Windows) – however, only one user can open and work with the project file at any point in time. If more than one user wants to work on a project at the same time, teams can establish a ‘master’ project and provide a copy of the master project to each team member. At regular intervals, team members’ work can be merged into the master project. To enjoy real time collaboration, increased security options and the ability to work with larger amounts of data, teams can use NVivo 12 (Windows) with NVivo for Teams.
Mac versions of NVivo products are not compatible with NVivo for Teams. Groups may choose to collaborate by sharing a single Mac version of their NVivo project file.
You can easily open your NVivo projects from previous versions of the software in NVivo 12, but be aware that once the files have been converted to work with the new software, you won’t be able to open them in the older versions. A copy of the project in the older format will be retained.
Due to cross platform limitations and issues
we recommend that teams avoid using both Mac and Windows versions of NVivo for one project. All data may not successfully convert between platforms due to restrictions on data exchange between operating systems.
