Framework is a qualitative data analysis method developed by the UK's largest, independent not-for-profit research institute, the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) in the 1980's.
The Framework method is used to organize and manage research through the process of summarization, resulting in a robust and flexible matrix output which allows the researcher to analyze data both by case and theme. It's used by hundreds of researchers in areas such as health research, policy development and program evaluation.
The specialist Software designed by NatCen to support this method was called FrameWork. This Software is no longer developed, and through a partnership between NatCen and QSR, NVivo 11 for Windows, NVivo 10 for Windows and NVivo 9 provide functionality to support the Framework method.
QSR's NVivo Software released since September 2011 includes functionality called framework matrices, which supports the Framework method. To learn more about this feature refer to Help in your NVivo Software.
