Dr. Anupama Shekar is an experienced qualitative researcher, program evaluator, and NVivo trainer. Her career has evolved through her passion for educational research and evaluation with qualitative data being at the heart of her work over the last 15 years. Through her work both in the U.S. and India, Dr. Shekar has used several qualitative methodologies like case study, grounded theory, ethnography, phenomenology, and narrative inquiry in a variety of contexts and settings. Specifically, she has used qualitative and mixed-methods research and evaluation approaches in the areas of school & educational leadership, community-based leadership, parent, family & community involvement, bilingual & multilingual education, and professional development programs and initiatives. She is interested in using rigorous qualitative methodologies to understand and explore complexities around change that takes place in both educational settings and within communities. NVivo software has been at the core of Dr. Shekar’s projects for data warehousing, design, analysis, visualization, and reporting. As an expert NVivo trainer, she has conducted trainings and provided research and evaluation consultations for non-profit, government, and academic sectors. 

Prior to moving to the U.S, she received a Master's degree in Journalism and worked as a print journalist for a national mainstream newspaper focusing on public educational leadership and policy in South India.  She earned her doctoral degree from the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013 and was a Post-Doctoral scholar with WIDA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently an Evaluation Consultant with the Center on Research &  Evaluation at the Simmons School of Education and Human Development at the Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas.
