How do I cite QSR software in my work?

To cite QSR software products within a body of text:

It is customary to mention the company name, the software name and the software version. The type of program is optional. For example:

Example 1: Fred Smith uses QSR International's NVivo 12 software.
Example 2: John Citizen used QSR International's NVivo 12 qualitative data analysis software.

A Citation may be written in the same way as a reference to a book publisher (note, there is no need to repeat material contained within the body text). For example:

NVivo qualitative data analysis software; QSR International Pty Ltd. Version 12, 2018.

Note, use the same format for NVivo 11, released 2015; NVivo 10, released in 2014; NVivo 9, released in 2010; and NVivo 8, released in 2008.

You can use the following sample formats to direct the reader to books describing QSR software:

Sample 1: Richards, Lyn. Handling Qualitative Data: A Practical Guide. Sage Publications, London, 2005. ISBN 0-7619-4259-9

Sample 2: Richards, Lyn. Using NVivo in Qualitative Research. London & Los Angeles, Sage, 1999. ISBN 0-7619-6525-4.
